Ladies and Gentlemen:

I'm passing on some information that you may find useful.

City facilities return to normal schedule, add services for winter weather cleanup

The weekend's moderate temperatures and sunny skies brought residents and visitors out of their homes and hotels, but now the cleanup begins. Last week's winter blast shut down some City services for three days, and officials have made changes to those services to get things back to normal this week.

Garbage Collection

Curbside garbage and recycling collection returns to its normal schedule for the week of Feb. 7, but yard waste collection has been canceled for this week. Crews normally assigned to yard waste will be used to help pick up the extra garbage and recycling that built up during the shutdown. Residents with full carts can leave extra bagged garbage and loose recycling in boxes next to their carts on their normal collection day at no additional cost.

Animal Care and Control

Animal Shelter operations will return to normal Monday, but pet owners looking to reclaim lost animals boarded at the shelter will have an extra three days. All lost animals will be held for three additional days before they are released to adoption facilities. Owners who reclaim their lost pets will be credited three days on the boarding fee normally charged for animals held at the shelter.

Zoning Cases for City Council

All zoning cases scheduled to be heard at last week's canceled City Council meeting will instead be heard at the Feb. 8 meeting, set for 7 p.m. at City Hall.

Street Cleaning

Crews are already at work cleaning the more than 700 locations citywide that were sanded to help motorists get around safely during last week's ice and snow. Downtown streets - with their high pedestrian traffic - have been the focus of initial cleanup, and planning is under way to address all sanding routes throughout the City.
